Stop Having Celebrities Present an Award They Have a Film Nominated In
What happened three times at 2017 telecast was celebrities presenting awards that they happened to have had a film nominated in: Riz Ahmed & Felicity Jones presenting Best Visual Effects (where their film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story lost to The Jungle Book), Ben Affleck & Matt Damon presenting Best Original Screenplay (where Manchester By the Sea, produced by Damon and starring Affleck’s brother, Casey, ended up winning), and Amy Adams presenting Best Adapted Screenplay (where her film Arrival lost to Moonlight). They all should’ve spent more time in the audience cheering on their films no matter what instead of presenting a category that they may have some special interest in. Luckily for Affleck and Damon, Manchester By the Sea won the award they both presented together, but if it didn’t, things probably would’ve gotten pretty awkward.
A Tribute to the Disney Animated Classics
On October 16, 2023, Walt Disney Animation Studios will be celebrating its 100th birthday. What the producers of the Oscar telecast should consider doing is a segment that pays tribute to some of the Disney animated classics (especially since the Oscars air on ABC, which is owned by Disney). They could do a clip montage highlighting many of them as well as a medley of some of their classic Oscar-winning songs such as ‘Under the Sea’ from The Little Mermaid, the title song from Beauty & the Beast, ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin, and ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ from The Lion King. They could even get Samuel E. Wright, Angela Lansbury, Brad Kane, Lea Salonga, and Elton John to unite for it, and maybe end the performance with ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ from Pinocchio.
