The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards are coming up! There’s so much to do in so little time, so I shall now be giving you my predictions for the Limited Series/TV Movie categories.

Outstanding Limited Series:
  1. Chernobyl
  2. When They See Us
  3. Fosse/Verdon
  4. Escape at Dannemora
  5. Sharp Objects
First off, let me point out that this was such a banner year for miniseries. Any other year, each of the nominees would have a great shot of winning. Yet, it all comes down to both of the late-breaking contenders this season, HBO’s Chernobyl and Netflix’s When They See Us. At the Creative Arts ceremony last weekend, Chernobyl won 7 awards (including Picture Editing), which was the most of any miniseries this year. Meanwhile, When They See Us only won Casting, but it wasn’t nominated for Picture Editing. It is worth noting that most of the Best Casting in a Limited Series/TV Movie winners within this past decade went on to win Best Miniseries. Then again, it’s also worth noting that every single winner of this category within the past decade was also at least nominated for Picture Editing. So I’m predicting Chernobyl to win.

Outstanding Television Movie:
  1. Deadwood: The Movie
  2. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
  3. King Lear
  4. Brexit
  5. My Dinner with Herve
Previous installments of Black Mirror may have won this award for the last two years, but I’m predicting Deadwood: The Movie to win this year. The original series of HBO’s cult hit western was cancelled prematurely back in 2006 after only three seasons. 13 years later, Deadwood returns with a movie that not only continues its storyline, but also wraps everything up. Not to mention that the movie itself also has the most nominations out of all the films in this category.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series/Movie:
  1. Jharrel Jerome-When They See Us
  2. Jared Harris-Chernobyl
  3. Sam Rockwell-Fosse/Verdon
  4. Benicio del Toro-Escape at Dannemora
  5. Mahershala Ali-True Detective
  6. Hugh Grant-A Very English Scandal
Jharrel Jerome appears to be When They See Us’ best shot at an acting prize. The next three categories each have multiple nominations from the show, which is likely to result in vote-splitting. While the Oscars don’t usually like to award 20-something year old men in the Best Actor category, the Emmys within the last two years have appeared to be more open to that with Riz Ahmed and Darren Criss each prevailing in this category for The Night Of and The Assassination of Gianni Versace, respectively. So while I am predicting Jharrel, I could still see Jared Harris winning for Chernobyl. He’s that veteran actor who’s been in the business for 30 years, yet was recently given a rare starring role in his career. A win for Jared here could also be a sign of how strong Chernobyl is.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series/Movie:
  1. Michelle Williams-Fosse/Verdon
  2. Patricia Arquette-Escape at Dannemora
  3. Amy Adams-Sharp Objects
  4. Joey King-The Act
  5. Niecy Nash-When They See Us
  6. Aunjanue Ellis-When They See Us
A year ago, I would’ve predicted that Amy Adams would easily win this award in a cakewalk for her haunting performance in Sharp Objects. Yet, along came Patricia Arquette, who managed to sweep through the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice (in a tie with Amy Adams), and SAG Awards for her performance in Escape at Dannemora. Then in the spring, Michelle Williams came in with Fosse/Verdon, and delivered what many people felt was one of the best performances of the year (on screens big and small) for her portrayal of Broadway legend Gwen Verdon. I’ll say that given how Patricia is also nominated in supporting for her performance in the Hulu miniseries, The Act, that could help her here. We’ve seen how much being a double nominee in two separate categories has helped people in the past. Not only at the Emmys, but at the Oscars as well. However, I’m predicting Michelle Williams to win. In the years since Dawson’s Creek ended, Michelle went on to receive six Screen Actors Guild nominations, four Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations, and a Tony nomination, but has never won a major peer group award. That might just change Sunday night.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series/Movie:
  1. Stellan Skarsgård-Chernobyl
  2. Ben Whishaw-A Very English Scandal
  3. Michael Kenneth Williams-When They See Us
  4. Paul Dano-Escape at Dannemora
  5. John Leguizamo-When They See Us
  6. Asante Blackk-When They See Us
Ben Whishaw may have won the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and BAFTA TV Awards for his performance in A Very English Scandal, but the show itself isn’t even nominated for Outstanding Limited Series. The last winner in this category to have prevailed for a program that wasn’t nominated for Miniseries nor TV Movie was Ben Gazzara for Hysterical Blindness back in 2003. So I’m predicting Stellan Skarsgård to win as part of a possible sweep for Chernobyl. If he does win, it would be an extra something Stellan has in common with his son, Alexander, who had previously won this award two years ago for Big Little Lies.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series/Movie:
  1. Patricia Clarkson-Sharp Objects
  2. Emily Watson-Chernobyl
  3. Patricia Arquette-The Act
  4. Margaret Qualley-Fosse/Verdon
  5. Vera Farmiga-When They See Us
  6. Marsha Stephanie Blake-When They See Us
Patricia Clarkson appears to be Sharp Objects’ best shot at a win Sunday night. So far, she has managed to win the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards for her performance in the HBO miniseries. Not to mention that if Clarkson wins, she’ll have gone three-for-three at the Emmys after having previously won twice before for guest starring in Six Feet Under. Then again, if Emily Watson wins here, that could be a sign of how strong Chernobyl is. Though as I previously mentioned in Lead Actress, given how Patricia Arquette is also nominated for Escape at Dannemora, that could help her win here for The Act.

The Red Carpet begins at 7:00 tonight on FOX followed by the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards at 8:00.
