The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards are coming up! There’s so much to do in so little time, so I shall now be giving you my predictions for the Drama Series categories.

Outstanding Drama Series:
  1. The Handmaid’s Tale
  2. Game of Thrones
  3. The Crown
  4. The Americans
  5. Stranger Things
  6. Westworld
  7. This is Us
Last year, Game of Thrones took a year off from the Emmys while The Handmaid’s Tale won in its place. This year, both of those shows are competing face-to-face for the first time. Game of Thrones may have won the most awards at the Creative Arts ceremony last weekend, but The Handmaid’s Tale is more relevant now thanks to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. However, The Crown managed to pull a huge surprise when it won the award for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series at the Creative Arts.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
  1. Matthew Rhys-The Americans
  2. Milo Ventiniligia-This is Us
  3. Sterling K. Brown-This is Us
  4. Jeffrey Wright-Westworld
  5. Jason Bateman-Ozark
  6. Ed Harris-Westworld
Sterling K. Brown may have managed to edge out his co-star, Milo Ventimiligia, last year, but they both seem to be at a greater risk of vote-splitting this year. Especially given that Ventimiligia’s character was a much bigger deal this past season on This is Us. I’m going with Matthew Rhys not only because of the factor I already mentioned, but also because this is the final season for The Americans, so he appears to be their best shot at a win Monday night.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
  1. Elisabeth Moss-The Handmaid’s Tale
  2. Claire Foy-The Crown
  3. Sandra Oh-Killing Eve
  4. Keri Russell-The Americans
  5. Tatiana Maslany-Orphan Black
  6. Evan Rachel Wood-Westworld
Elisabeth Moss continues to kill it on The Handmaid’s Tale, and while I do think she has a great shot at repeating her victory from last year, Claire Foy does appear to be within striking distance. Not only did she manage to upset Moss by winning her second consecutive SAG Award in this exact category earlier this year, but this is also her final season on The Crown as Olivia Colman will be taking over as Queen Elizabeth II for the next two seasons. It is also worth noting that Foy is already garnering Oscar buzz for her role as Neil Armstrong’s first wife in the upcoming biographical film, First Man.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
  1. Matt Smith-The Crown
  2. Joseph Fiennes-The Handmaid’s Tale
  3. Peter Dinklage-Game of Thrones
  4. David Harbour-Stranger Things
  5. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau-Game of Thrones
  6. Mandy Patinkin-Homeland
This year’s race for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series is really a tough call. You could really make a case for anyone of the top three I have listed. Peter Dinklage has won this category twice before, though with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also in contention for Game of Thrones, they are both at risk of vote-splitting. With all this momentum behind The Handmaid’s Tale, I could see Joseph Fiennes prevailing here. Then again, Matt Smith managed to make the cut for his final season on The Crown as Tobias Menzies will be taking over as Prince Philip for the next two seasons.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
  1. Yvonne Strahovski-The Handmaid’s Tale
  2. Vanessa Kirby-The Crown
  3. Ann Dowd-The Handmaid’s Tale
  4. Thandie Newton-Westworld
  5. Lena Headey-Game of Thrones
  6. Alexis Bledel-The Handmaid’s Tale
  7. Millie Bobby Brown-Stranger Things
While two of this year’s nominees for The Handmaid’s Tale, Ann Dowd and Alexis Bledel, both previously won in two separate categories last year, I expect that show’s third nominee, Yvonne Strahovski, to take the gold. Her character, Serena Joy, was a much bigger deal this past season, that I think those factors will help her stand out. Though if the three ladies from The Handmaid’s Tale split the vote, I would not be too surprised to see Vanessa Kirby sneak in and take it for her final season on The Crown as Helena Bonham Carter will be taking over as Princess Margaret for the next two seasons.

Be sure to watch the Emmys on NBC at 8:00 this Monday night.
