The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards are coming up! There’s so much to do in so little time, so I shall now be giving you my predictions for the Comedy Series categories.

Outstanding Comedy Series:
  1. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  2. Atlanta
  3. Barry
  4. GLOW
  5. Silicon Valley
  6. Black-ish
  7. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
  8. Curb Your Enthusiasm
At the Creative Arts ceremony last weekend, both Atlanta and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel each took home three awards. The second season of Atlanta may be more fresh into people’s minds, but Mrs. Maisel was such a breakout hit when it debuted on Amazon Prime late last year. Not to mention that the former program did win Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, so that does give it an edge.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
  1. Donald Glover-Atlanta
  2. Bill Hader-Barry
  3. Ted Danson-The Good Place
  4. Anthony Anderson-Black-ish
  5. William H. Macy-Shameless
  6. Larry David-Curb Your Enthusiasm
Donald Glover continues his winning streak of success as a reniassance man, especially on the second season of Atlanta. While I do think he has a great shot of winning a second consecutive Emmy in this category, Bill Hader does appear as a force to be reckon with. Not only is his role on Barry a midwestern hitman who travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and then finds himself joining the local arts scene, but the series itself did do pretty well in nominations.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
  1. Rachel Brosnahan-The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  2. Allison Janney-Mom
  3. Tracee Ellis Ross-Black-ish
  4. Lily Tomlin-Grace & Frankie
  5. Pamela Adlon-Better Things
  6. Issa Rae-Insecure
This looks like the easiest categorty to predict this year. At the age of 27, Rachel Brosnahan has already accomplished so much work within this past decade before landing her breakout role as the title character on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Though I guess the one person I could see upsetting her is Allison Janney given that she is an Emmy darling who is fresh off of her Oscar success with I, Tonya (especially since she managed to win over Laurie Metcalf in Lady Bird, who people felt was far more deserving).

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
  1. Henry Winkler-Barry
  2. Tony Shalhoub-The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  3. Brian Tyree Henry-Atlanta
  4. Alec Baldwin-Saturday Night Live
  5. Tituss Burgess-Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
  6. Kenan Thompson-Saturday Night Live
  7. Louie Anderson-Baskets
The race for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series this year is almost too close to call. I’d say Henry Winkler has the edge for Barry given that he’s been a TV icon since the 1970’s who has never won a Primetime Emmy despite six prior nominations. Then again, Tony Shalhoub is also a veteran who has won three times before as the title character on Monk. If he wins here, it would definitely be a sign of how strong Mrs. Maisel is (just like how he got caught in a huge sweep for The Band’s Visit at the Tony Awards a few months ago). Though with Katt Williams pulling an upset for his guest appearance on Atlanta at the Creative Arts ceremony, could that bode well for Brian Tyree Henry? As we’re in the third consecutive year of the Emmys utilizing a plurality vote instead of a rank system, we’ve been seeing more lesser-known actors taking down the veterans.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
  1. Alex Borstein-The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  2. Kate McKinnon-Saturday Night Live
  3. Zazie Beetz-Atlanta
  4. Laurie Metcalf-Roseanne
  5. Betty Gilpin-GLOW
  6. Megan Mullally-Will & Grace
  7. Leslie Jones-Saturday Night Live
  8. Aidy Bryant-Saturday Night Live
Alex Borstein has been that veteran actress who up until The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has only really been known for her voice work on Family Guy. Yet with the former series, she’s lately been having her biggest moment in the spotlight. Not to mention that she did just win the Emmy for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for Family Guy at the Creative Arts ceremony, so the safe money does appear to be on her. Then again, Kate McKinnon did managed to win this award for Saturday Night Live the last two years, so a third consecutive win here probably wouldn’t surprise me too much. Though if Zazie Beetz wins here, it could definitely be a sign of how strong Atlanta is.

Be sure to watch the Emmys on NBC at 8:00 this Monday night.
