The 2016 Drama League Award winners have been announced today! So let’s talk about them, shall we?
Outstanding Production of a Play:
The Humans: The momentum for the most talked about new American play in years keeps growing more and more everyday.
Outstanding Production of a Musical:
Hamilton: Is anyone really surprised by this win? After the Off-Broadway production lost last year to An American in Paris, the Broadway transfer pulls off a victory this year.
Outstanding Revival of a Play:
A View From the Bridge: Looks like this is shaping up to be a horse race between the Outer Critics Circle Award winner Long Day’s Journey Into Night and the Drama League Award winner A View From the Bridge for the Best Revival of a Play Tony.
Outstanding Revival of a Musical:
The Color Purple: Like in the previous category, this is probably shaping up to be a horse race between the Drama League winner The Color Purple and the Outer Critics Circle winner She Loves Me for Best Revival of a Musical.
Distinguished Performance Award:
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton: No one has really been working as hard as anyone on Broadway this year as Lin-Manuel Miranda. After writing the entire piece himself, he stars as the title character seven times a week, carrying the whole show on his back.
